Avatar (and Papyrus)

James Cameron’s Avatar is a stunning piece of visual art. That being said,  >> INSERT NERD ALERT HERE << is anyone else annoyed at the typeface selection? No! Could it be…a modified Papyrus? The one typeface that is the butt of most typography jokes, (such as comic sans or hobo) is being used as the main typeface for a $300M film. It puts a sort of cheapness to the movie for me. But, in these days, for all we know, the designer probably presented several custom typefaces and Cameron said “What about that one from Publisher?”

100% Agreed! That was the first thing I had noticed about the movie poster.

On a side note, I also thought it was interesting that what looks like Trajan was used as the secondary typeface for the subtext. (http://tinyurl.com/ydc5xml)

It is probably the most overused typeface in movie poster history! (http://tinyurl.com/ycdqdgl)
