The response to our typographic pledge poster has been great so far. But not all of them have been positive. It’s been entertaining. This one cracks me up on a few levels:

Clearly this person is not a true designer. Not using those fonts definitely fall under what I like to call the “Design Commandments” along with:
- thou shalt not photocopy
- thou shalt save your work often
- thou shalt tell your client to proof their copy BEFORE submitting it to be designed
- thou shalt design creatively within the scope of work you have been given or thou will be fired (this one students really need to learn)
- thou shalt learn to follow directions fully
- thou shalt only give the best designs to the client or the client will pick the worst of the bunch. every time.
etc

also.. on the ‘first commandment’..
it would have robbed the world of David Carson, Emigre, Ed Fella, MM Paris MisprintedType and so on.
*Graphic Design isn’t ‘Helvetica’ ;P

re: first commandment
that one came about after clients photocopied our work instead of printing it. argh.
