Back in Black.

While watching CBS Sunday morning, a fact really stood out to me. Vinyl sales are on the rise, more than doubled in the past year, while CD’s hold a dismal future. While they can’t compare to the amount of music sold digitally, this should be given some props. Has the “final frontier” of LP’s long ago become the “vinyl frontier” of late? I think it can be easy for us to get lost in a world of instant gratification. Fans are willing to pay extra for something more tangible-something that will enhance their music experience, unlike a computer file. Our office audiophile, Jeff, lights up like a kid when standing in front of an inviting array of LP’s at our local record store. I doubt ITunes gives him the same sort of glint in his eye. Nice to know we’re still human.

and as an added bonus driving vinyl sales, many small labels offer the album as a free digital download when you buy the record, so you can also have it in your iPod!
